Wanting-more and buying-more culture…

No one would deny that living in a materialistic and a consumer-oriented world has been the most crucial issue in the modern society. It creates more discontented minds and no matter how much we possess, it is never enough! We are afraid to die, we want to live longer, be healthier, look younger and accumulate more wealth! Sounds familiar? It is obvious that unhappiness, frustrations and stressful life style are unavoidable results of WANTING-MORE and BUYING-MORE culture. We all face emotions like anger, greed, infatuation, pride, malice, and also we all feel that something is missing in our daily life. In the modern world we have become quite successful in our external achievements-we have created powerful technologies and a variety of products, we are obsessed with accumulating power, wealth, property and objects–and yet we have not been able to create either individual or social peace, wisdom, or happiness. We all have the fear of the future and are addicted to the past. We have only to look around and see the emptiness of our pleasures and entertainments, the misuse of our material and personal resources, the disparities between rich and poor. We earn money to buy new things like cars, clothes or going to a holiday. But what happens when we reach all of these desires. The new question comes to our mind “what is next”? Loneliness, unhappiness and dissatisfaction are likely the result of our modern life and these issues will not be solved through new technological developments. Thus, we feel incomplete and limited, and are subject to feelings of sorrow, insecurity, fear, and separation, because we have separated ourselves from the experience of the whole. Instead, the resolution to these human problems will come only when we discover within ourselves that for which all of mankind is searching–inner peace, tranquility, and wisdom.

The mind and body cannot be thought separately and our emotional health has a lot of influence on our physical, mental and emotional body. This stressful life style and dissatisfaction weaken our immune system and cause many serious diseases as a reflection of the emotions in our body such as heart disease, neurological disorders or stomach ulcer to name but a few. The aim of Yoga, therefore, is not to change the world but the change our minds. Yoga enhances the physical body, refine emotions, challenge the intellect, reveal the soul and it teaches us being in the present moment. Yoga has become the most enlightening guide for human being not only to overcome these obstacles for spiritual development but also a great tool for prevention and cure of disease and injures. Yoga is a science as a practical, methodical, and systematic discipline or set of techniques that have the lofty goal of helping human beings to become aware of their deepest nature and it creates a bridge between the internal and external conditions of life. Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years and it includes the observations and principles of Ancient Theories about the mind and body connection, which has been proven by modern medicine. Through Yoga science, we can understand ourselves better on all levels, including the physical wellbeing, the actions, thought process, emotions, and desires. So how can one refuse this – 5000 years old- science?

The answer is quite simple: DO NOT IGNORE WHAT PLEASES YOU!!! |
